Central Squash Award Winners for 2011

The Central Squash Awards held last Sunday at the Wanganui Squash Club summed up a very successful year for SquashGym Palmerston North winning all of the "Premier Awards" that were up for grabs.

The SquashGym Academy is proving to be a force to be reckoned with with Kaitlyn Watts and Corbin Faint winning the “Most Improved Junior Girl and Boy” awards, Danielle Fourie winning the “Player of the Year” award and Grant Watts picking up “Coach of the Year”. 2011 has been a very successful year for the Academy with Kaitlyn Watts winning her 2nd consecutive U’11 national title and Danielle Fourie being selected in the NZ Junior Women’s team that traveled to Boston earlier this year to compete in the Junior Women’s World Championships. The Academy currently has 8 players ranked in the top 10 of their respective junior age groups.

Paul Blatchford who was a member of the SquashGym D Grade Super Champs team that finished 3rd at nationals this year won the “Most Improved Senior” award. This has been a huge year for Paul shooting up the grading list 915 points, starting this season off in E1 and now being well into C2. Grant Smith won the “Administrator of the Year” award for his mammoth efforts with the 2010 Women’s World Champs and after just missing out on the National Club of the Year award SquashGym also won the “District Club of the Year”.

SquashGym also received four acknowledgement awards, one for Life Member Joss Urbahn for her contributions as a NZ Referee’s administrator and three team acknowledgement awards for the Men’s B and F Grade SuperChamps teams and the SquashGym Club Masters team who have all won national titles this year.

Congratulations to all those who received awards – here’s to a bigger and better year in 2012!
