Wednesday night Squasghgym hosted the 1st round of the 2010 92.2 More FM Premier Interclub.
This years competition has entries from Rangitikei, back for the 1st time in several years as well as an entry from Masterton, which has added interest to the competition.
Rangitikei took on Masterton and won 3-1 with wins to Tim Preston over Matt Spooner, Dylan Tasker over Justin Brown. Masterton got on the board with a win to Mike Stagg over Warren Mant while the match was decided with a win in the doubles to Rangitikei.
Defending champions PNBHS took on Higgins Palmerston North Green, and came out on top 3/1. Tom Nash beat Glenn Carson 3/1, Tyron Fourie beat Yeshan Ekanyake 3/0 while the recently promoted "A" grader Blair Landers beat Jason Fletcher 3/0. In the match of the night the doubles went right to the wire with PNBHS's Grant Smith and Rob Brownrigg saving 3 match Balls in the 5th to edge out Dave Clifford and Phil Blumont 16/14 in the 5th. For their efforts Grant and Rob share the player of the night award.
The last match on saw Inspire Net Palmerston North Blue take on Harvey Round Motors Wanganui with the Palmerston North team completed a clean sweep 4/0 win. Joseph Watts had a hard fought 3/2 win over Kent Darlington, Ben Murphy won 3/0 over Ant Rountree, Danielle Fourie made here Premier debut with a good win over Allan Dallas, and the doubles went to Palmerston North 3/1.
After Round 1 the table is as follows;
1st Inspire Net Palmerton North Blue 6 Points
2nd = Rangitikei 4 Points
2nd = PNBHS 4 Points
4th = Higgins Palmerston North Green 1 Point
4th = Sports Arena Masterton 1 Point
6th = Harvey Round Motors Wanganui 0 points
