Prince Junior Series under way!

Inglewood Squash Club hosted the first of the Prince Junior Series yesterday, with entries coming from all over the district, i.e. Inglewood, Kawaroa Park, Hawera, Wanganui, RiverCity and SquashGym Palmerston North.

This year the competition is only open to all J-Grade juniors, omitting F graders from this competition as a trial period for this year.  For the F graders it’s time for them to step up and play amongst the adults and be challenged!  While some may disagree with this decision, it certainly proved to be a good move within the Inglewood tournament, the atmosphere among the J-graders were quite friendly and relaxed on and off court.  This competition was designed is to give the J-graders a feel of competitive competition playing among their level of squash.  With this comes the expectation off court as well, learning to mark and referee their peer’s game without the intimation.

While thanks goes to Hammer Hardware for sponsoring prizes on the day. A number of the top seeds struggled to hold seeding:

The girls division one winner went to second seed Siobhan Patterson (SPN) and Runner-Up went to third seed Chanelle Kuklinski of Hawera, both beating the top seed with some thrilling rallies.

Boys Division One winner went to the third seed James Van Kerkoff of Wanganui, inching out top seed Martin Kuklinski of Hawera.

Boys division two also had its upsets with Liam Patterson (SPN) seeded second prevailing to win this division.  Andrew Boot (KP), coming runner-up from being seeded fourth.

Each club gets to nominate three players that have displayed, fairplay, good behaviour or demonstrated good court skills throughout the day, these went to:

Fairplay  Siobhan Patterson (SPN)

Court Skills Chanelle Kuklinski (Hawera)

Behaviour James Van Kerkoff (complimenting his opponents on court)

As a spectator of this tournament, I would like to also congratulate Adam Marsh, who always had a smile on his face whether he was winning or losing – what a sportsman Adam, well done!

Special thanks to Janet Andrews and Jeff Ansell and your team, for running this event on the day, it was awesome!
