North Island Junior Age Group Champs

Encouraging signs from the four players named to represent New Zealand at the Junior Men's World Squash Championships in Ecuador later this month.

Lance Beddoes, Paul Coll, Bryce Redman and Michael Sunderland rewarded the selectors for their faith, by winning through to the semifinals of the North Island Age Group Championships in Napier.

Coll eventually claimed the title with a 3-1 win over third seeded Redman in the final.  He had earlier accounted for Sunderland in straight games in the semis, which would have been sweet revenge after losing to his teammate in the final of the South Island Age Group Champs in Christchurch last weekend.

Redman had earned his place in the final with a 3-2 victory over Beddoes on the other side of the draw.

Meanwhile, Megan Craig made it double delight for Canterbury, with victory in the under 19 girls event.  Craig continued her recent dominance of the New Zealand junior scene with a 3-1 win over Central's Danielle Fourie in the final.
