23 players from Central Squash went to Napier to play in the North Island Juniors.
Although many players had some fantastic results, two players in particular, Kaitlyn Watts and Danielle Fourie had outstanding results setting themselves up very well for the Junior Nationals in October.
Kaitlyn who only turned 9 in February won the Girls U11 title - the "Squash Auckland Cup". This is the first time a North Island girls title has come back to SquashGym since Wendy Stanton won the U17 girls in 1980 - 30 years ago! Kaitlyn won all her games 3 love, and beat the No 1 seed Ruby Turnbull (D2) from Canterbury in the final.
Danielle played Emma Millar in the semi final of the U19 girls. Danielle had never beaten Emma but played outstanding front court squash to win 3/1. She continued this form into the final against Megan Craig. Danielle showed how good she can play going 10-0 up in the second game. Danielle was not able to keep up the pressure eventually going down 3/1, but showed she is certainly capable of winning the U19 National title in October.
