King crowned national champion in Whakatane

Rising New Zealand squash star Joelle King has been crowned champion at the New Zealand National Championships in Whakatane.

King claimed her maiden national title with an 11-4, 8-11, 11-6 11-5 upset win over world number 14 Jaclyn Hawkes in the final.  It caps a stellar year for the 21-year-old from Cambridge, who has risen to number 20 in the world rankings.

Meanwhile, there is also a new men's national champion, with Campbell Grayson taking out the title.  The world number 42 was too good for Wellington's Evan Williams in the final, winning 15-13, 11-1, 11-5.
