Senior team battle hard to retain seedings

Central took a team of 10 down to compete in the New Zealand Senior Nationals event at the new Christchurch Squash Club. This was the first event at the newly built facility.
The Team consisted of Allan Bailey, Nick Stretton, Matthew Ratcliffe, Rory Mortleman and Hugh Jackson in the men's.  Kaitlyn Watts, Annaleise Faint, Ngakuira Osborne, Jacinta Harrison and Chelsea Aims in the women's with Coach Victor Romero and Manager/coach Loni Martin.
Our womens team were seeded 5th in the event, with the men seeded 9th, so a very big ask to come away with any chance of a title. However the team still competed and gave some opponents a good run for their money.
The first day saw the men come up against Canterbury, going down 4/0 and with back to back games took on Bay of Plenty in the afternoon going down 3/1, but managing a win.
The girls first day saw them first take on Eastern coming up with a 3/1 win, with wins to Kaitlyn, Annaleise and Ngakuira. They then took on Bay of Plenty, who were seeded second and with a massive ask tried their best but went down 3/1. Kaitlyn managed a convincing win against Jo Shanks.
Day two and the teams were back on court starting with the men at 9am taking on Eastern. The boys came second going down 4/0, but not without Matt and Rory pushing their opponents to 5. Back on court at 12 against Midlands, again going down in 4, but this time it was Nick and Hugh playing some exciting squash to push their opponents to 5.
The girls first game started at 12, playing off for 4,5 and 6. Northland again had a strong team and were seeded 4th so were fighting hard to retain their position, however our girls made them work for it. Kaitlyn again pulled out a 3/0 win but unfortunately the team went down 3/1. The afternoons game was a nail biter and this time the girls managed a 2/2 win on count back against canterbury. Both Jacinta and Ngakuira played out of their skin to go down fighting in 5. And both Kaitlyn and Annaleise secured 3/0 wins against their opponents.
Final placings for both teams was to retain their seedings, all in all a great weekend with great fight from all the team.
