Central Juniors Retain Trophy Against Eastern

On Sunday 12th February a team of 20 Central juniors made their way to Hastings Tennis and Squash Club for the annual Central v Eastern Junior One Day Challenge.

This year we welcomed 8 new juniors to the team from around the district to join the 12 who have had the honour of representing Central previously.

Despite the looming cyclone Gabrielle threat, we were able to complete the day's games and proudly bring the trophy home for the 5th year running.

Central took an early close lead after round one by 2 games.  Round two was even as we headed into the final 2 games played by our team captains Grace Burnard and Brodie Bennett.  Both had outstanding tough battles with Grace winning in 5.  Brodie who was playing up 2 age groups and a higher graded opponent took the win also in 5 to secure the overall win for the Central Team.

Well done to the Central team for a day of great squash and sportsmanship on display.  Thanks to the support of their families who travelled to the event, it was a long day for many.  Thank you also to the Eastern team for their friendly hospitality and a good day of squashing.  We look forward to hosting the challenge next year.
